Calendar of Events

Launched in 2012, “Grow the Game” is a global initiative to add 1 million inexperienced players to the game of hockey by 2023, with Canada serving as the starting point of those efforts. Hockey in Canada has experienced historically low participation growth rates over the last few years, and today approximately 90% of Canadian families and their children choose not to play hockey. The goal is to introduce families to hockey in a fun and affordable.

The MHL (Mississauga Hockey League) Second Shift program is a game-oriented program designed to transition players from First Shift into Mississauga Hockey League play (with an Area Association) the following hockey season. Whereas First Shift focuses on learning to skate in hockey equipment, learning to stick-handle, shoot, etc., SECOND SHIFT focuses on actual hockey game play. Teams are made-up of interested First Shift “graduates” and we take as many players as we can.

The plan for 2024-2025 is to create 12 teams out of the six MHL First Shift programs. These 12 teams would then play a 8 week schedule of games, using the ice currently in use by First Shift, starting on January 11th/12th and running until March 1st / 2nd 2025. A schedule will be sent to each of the associations to distribute.

The cost for Second Shift will be $199.00. Note that $100.00 of this fee is potentially refundable if you join the MHL by registering with one of our 6 Area Associations) for the 2025-2026 hockey season.

About the MHL:

• Not for Profit, affiliated with the City of Mississauga
• No bodychecking
• No geographic boundaries… the Area Association you choose to register with is up to you.
• Annual registration commences in the Spring (on/or around June 1st) and runs through the Summer.
• Beginners are always welcome, and our tiered levels of play ensures that everyone has a chance to compete.

Registration with PCHA:

• Register with Port Credit Hockey, program runs from January 11th. to Saturday, March 1st.
• Opening event Saturday January 11th, 2PM @ Huron Park
• 3 Scrimmages with other teams on Saturdays at Huron Park, 2PM, Saturdays, our home ice.
• 3 Scrimmages with other teams on Sundays at other arenas TBD, between 1PM and 3PM, other association ice.
• Closing event Saturday March 1st, 2PM @ Huron Park.
